About me

Hi, I’m Sonia—the harpist behind Plucking Brilliant. My journey with the harp began when I was just seven years old. I spotted one in an orchestra pit and was immediately enchanted by its ethereal sound and breathtaking beauty. I begged my parents to let me take lessons. Knowing how expensive it would be, they agreed—on one condition: I had to take it seriously. And I did. I had the privilege of studying under Lilya Zayets, one of Ukraine’s premier harpists, and that early foundation sparked a lifelong passion for music.

Over the years, I’ve performed as both a soloist and ensemble player, sharing the stage with groups like the Awesöme Orchestra, Berkeley Women’s Orchestra, and as the principal harpist for the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra.

I specialize in a diverse repertoire that spans classical masterpieces, contemporary pop hits, and everything in between. I love working with clients to craft the perfect musical atmosphere—whether you're going for timeless elegance, romantic whimsy, or a fresh and modern vibe. With classical roots and a modern flair (and just the right amount of sass), I promise a harp experience that’s anything but ordinary. Not your grandma’s harpist—unless she was super cool.

Oh, and a fun fact: before I was plucking strings, I was a professional ballroom dancer. So when it comes to rhythm, flow, and feeling the vibe of a room—I’ve got you covered.

Let’s make something brilliant together.
